American Airline Pet Travel Policy

Being an animal lover, one of the most difficult things is that you can't leave your pet alone for a single minute at home. But If you're travelling with American Airlines to your preferred destination then you don't have to worry as you can simply travel with your pet. American Airlines allow the pet to travel and one can very easily travel with their pets to multiple destinations. American Airlines Airlines welcome pets to travel in the cabin or as checked baggage on board.

American airlines Pets in the cabin

Small dogs and cats can accompany their owners in the cabin of American flights if the combined weight of the pet and carrier does not exceed 22 lbs. Each passenger is permitted to bring 1 carrier on board and only 1 pet is permitted in each carrier.

Pets as checked baggage

Pets who exceed the weight limit to travel in the cabin with American Airlines may be accepted for transport as checked baggage instead. The maximum combined weight of the pet and carrier should not exceed 99 lbs to travel in this manner.

Your pet can travel and be carried with you in the cabin.
Your pet’s qualification for travel in the passenger cabin –

For pets travelling in the cabin, carriers must not exceed 17" L×12" W×7" H (43 cm× 30cm ×17cm). They should have perforated floors and must be lockable. pets should be allowed to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably inside. Carriers are permitted to be soft and hard-sided. For pets travelling as checked baggage carriers should have combined dimensions less than 62(157cm). If carriers must also be scratch and leak-proof and have handles for safe carriage.

We allow the pets to travel in the passenger cabin. However, the pet must meet the below-mentioned qualification:

• All animals must be at least 8 weeks of age

• Only domestic pets are allowed and permitted to travel in the passenger cabin.

• More than two pets per carrier are not allowed.
The pets must be able to turn and stand inside the carrier.

• Your pet must have no problem remaining in its kennel and under the seat throughout the flight.

• Pets can't be ill, violent or in physical Distress.

• All animals are required to be harmless.

Kennel guidelines –

All the pets travelling with American Airlines’ cabin must be kept safe in a kennel that is specially made for animal carriage, the ad is leak-proof.
The kennel must match the size guideline of 9*16*19 inches in height*width*depth.

Health Documents – your pet must have a health certificate that is issued within 10 days of the day of departure of the flight from the originating city. (A rabies certificate is mandatory for dogs).
